Admissions Requirements for EMT’S

EMT Classes are 15 weeks
in length (10 weeks for the Summer program)
EMT-IV
courses will be offered only at the Franklin and Columbia campuses for Fall
Semester 2008.
These courses will be offered on an 8-hour day schedule.
Franklin: Monday/Wednesday 8:30 am-4:30 pm
Columbia: Tuesday/Thursday 8:30 am-4:30 pm
The first day of the Fall
EMT classes will be August 25th, 2008 in Franklin, August 26th,
2008 in Columbia. Priority registration for current CSCC students started
April 7th. Open registration started April 14th. There are currently
openings in both classes. We will admit 24 students per class.
Students will be required
to complete 96 hours in clinical rotations during their selected
semester (60 hours ambulance and 36 hours Hospital Emergency Department).
The total cost of
enrollment in the EMT program is approximately $1300.00. Required textbooks
($200.00) will be available in the Columbia State book store and should
be purchased by the first day of class.
Students will also be
expected to purchase the following:

A uniform shirt that will
be worn each day of class and at each
clinical visit. The order
form for this shirt will be provided at the first day of class and it is
recommended that you order more than one shirt. These shirts should cost
around $22.00.
Navy blue uniform-type
pants ($20.00-$40.00 each)
Black rubber-soled
work-type shoes or boots ($20.00-$60.00)
A stethoscope/blood
pressure kit from Big Shears. Ordering information will be given the first
day of class.
Schedules for clinical
rotations will be discussed the first day of class. Students are required to
have a calendar so that availability of schedules can be verified for their
clinical dates/times.
Students will also be
required to:
Complete a background
check ($50.00). This will be due by July 21st.
Submit proof of medical
insurance.
Complete a drug screen,
also due by July 21st.
Complete a physical exam,
along with all required vaccinations and/or titers. All forms that are
needed to be completed and signed by your physician are available on the
“Forms” page of this site. They must be completed and returned to the EMS
Office by August 11.
BLS certifications will be
included as part of the EMT program. It is not necessary to seek
certification prior to the class.
